McDonald’s Fights Childhood Obesity with Apple Slices

Everyone knows what McDonald’s is- and you immediately think fast food, hamburgers, fries, and fat. McDonald’s is trying to clean up it’s image in a socially responsible move by adding Apple Slices to all of it’s kids’ Happy Meals. They’re also launching a nutrition-based phone app as part of their health-push.

McDonald’s is adding “Apple Slices” to happy meals, no doubt because of industry regulators, outspoken health activists, and concerned parents. Personally, I think it’s a great move, but possibly too little too late. As a child (yes I was a kid once), McDonald’s – or any fast food- was a special treat, and something we were able to splurge on once or twice a month. As a result, I’ll eat at McD but I’m usually disappointed with the taste and quality of the fare, being able to cook my own burgers with much more satisfaction.

Thanks for the Apple slices, McDonalds…but you’re not completely at fault. Kids eat what you put in front of them if they’re hungry enough. Parents need to make the right choices, and of course, lead by example.
